Terms of use
These terms of use apply to the Kindgericht app. In short: Kindgericht is a guide to help you while shopping – not advice and not a guarantee. The information on the package always takes precedence, and you remain responsible for your child's diet.
This is a translation. In case of doubt, the German version applies.

The app is distributed through Apple's App Store and Google Play. Their terms apply in addition, for the App Store in particular Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA).
2. What the app does
Kindgericht reads the barcode of a food product, loads the product data from open databases (e.g. Open Food Facts) and rates the product for each child you have added – based on age, diet, allergies and intolerances.
The rating is based on published recommendations, including those of the World Health Organization (WHO), the German Nutrition Society (DGE), the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), the German Federal Institute for Public Health (BIÖG, formerly BZgA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Kindgericht is not affiliated with these bodies. Their recommendations are simplified and translated into the app's own rules; the bodies have neither reviewed nor approved the app's ratings.
3. No advice, no guarantee
- Product data comes from third parties and may be incorrect, incomplete or out of date. If an ingredient list is missing, the app may assume typical ingredients or recognise text from a photo – this can also be wrong.
- The information on the package always takes precedence. With allergies and intolerances, please check every product yourself.
- The app does not replace medical or dietary advice.
- All ratings are a recommendation. You decide what your child eats and drinks.
You confirm these points in the app before using it for the first time.
4. Free use and Premium
The app is free with 1 child and 3 scans. With a one-time purchase of Premium (€4.99) you can add unlimited children, scan unlimited products and use the detail view with nutritional values and recommendation. There is no subscription.
The purchase is handled entirely by Apple or Google. Their terms apply to payment, withdrawal and refunds; your statutory rights remain unaffected. Premium is linked to your Apple or Google account and can be restored on a new device.
5. Availability and changes to the app
The product databases are operated by third parties. I cannot guarantee that they are always available or contain every product. I keep developing the app; rules and ratings may change when recommendations or findings change. Features purchased with Premium remain available.
6. Liability
I am liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act.
In the case of slight negligence, I am only liable for breach of an essential obligation – an obligation whose fulfilment makes proper use of the app possible in the first place and on whose fulfilment you may rely. Liability is then limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of contract. Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded.
I give no guarantee for the accuracy of third-party product data (see section 3).
7. Use
You may use the app for private purposes. The app, its texts, rules and design are protected by copyright. You may not modify or copy the app or exploit its content commercially unless expressly permitted by law.
8. Privacy
How the app handles data is described in the privacy policy. In short: your children's data stays on your device or in your own iCloud.
9. Changes to these terms
If these terms change significantly, the app will show them before you continue and you will need to confirm them again. The version published here applies.
10. Final provisions
German law applies. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another EU country, the mandatory consumer protection provisions of that country remain unaffected.
I am neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. If you have any questions or problems, just send me an email.
