Privacy policy
This is a translation for convenience. The German version is legally binding.
This privacy policy applies to the iPhone app Kindgericht and to this website. In short: the app has no user account, shows no ads and uses no tracking. Your children's data only leaves your iPhone if you use iCloud Backup – and then it ends up in your own iCloud.

2.1 Data you enter
You can store information about your children in the app: name, date of birth, sex, diet, and allergies and intolerances. You can also save scanned products. This data is stored and evaluated exclusively locally on your device. It is not transferred to me or to third parties.
Information about allergies and intolerances may be health data. It is used solely to rate products on your device. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a), Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR), which you give by entering the data and can withdraw at any time by deleting it.
2.2 iCloud Backup
If you use iCloud Backup, your children's data – and, if you choose, your saved products – are stored via Apple's iCloud service in your own iCloud account, so they can be restored after reinstalling. I have no access to this data. The provider is Apple Distribution International Ltd., Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland; Apple's privacy policy applies. You can switch off the backup in the app's settings at any time; the data is then removed from iCloud.
To prevent the free scans from being reset by reinstalling, the app also stores the number of free scans already used (a single number) in your iCloud and in your device's keychain. I have no access to this either.
2.3 Camera
The camera is only used to recognise barcodes. No photos or videos are stored or transferred. You can revoke access at any time in the iOS settings.
2.4 Retrieving product data
When you scan a product, the app sends the barcode number to a product database to load the name, ingredients and nutrition values. For technical reasons, your device's IP address is also transmitted to the respective provider. Data about your children is not transferred. The databases are queried one after another until the product is found:
- Open Food Facts – Open Food Facts association, Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, France
- UPCitemdb – UPCitemdb.com, USA
- Nutritionix – Nutritionix / Syndigo LLC, USA
With providers in the USA, access by US authorities cannot be ruled out. The legal basis is providing the function you requested (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Product images are loaded from the Open Food Facts servers. If nutrition data, ingredients or the product image are missing, the app also sends individual words from the product name to the Open Food Facts search to find similar products – again, no data about your children is transferred. If the ingredient list is missing, the app also loads the photo of the ingredient list from there and reads the text with iOS text recognition directly on your device – no further data is transferred.
2.5 In-app purchases
Purchases within the app are handled entirely through Apple's App Store. I do not receive any payment data. The app only stores locally whether a purchase is active.
2.6 No analytics, no ads
The app contains no analytics or tracking tools and no advertising. No usage profiles are created.
2.7 Deletion
In the app, under Settings → Delete all data, you can remove all data – either only on the iPhone or in your iCloud as well. Deleting the app also removes the local data.
3. This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics tools and loads no content from third-party servers (e.g. no external fonts).
When pages are accessed, the hosting provider automatically stores server log files (e.g. IP address, date and time, page accessed, browser). This is necessary for the secure operation of the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The hosting provider deletes the log files after six weeks at the latest.
Hosting provider: STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. A data processing agreement is in place with the provider.
4. Contact by email
If you send me an email, I use your details only to answer your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). The email is deleted once the matter is settled and no statutory retention obligations apply.
5. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. Since the app data is only on your device and in your iCloud, you can view and delete it yourself at any time.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, e.g. the authority in your country or federal state.
6. Changes
If the app or the legal situation changes, I will update this privacy policy. The version published here applies.
